Carlene Carter – C’est C Bon (1983 / Epic Records / Carrollton Press Pressing / LP)
A factory-sealed Mint original pressing of Carlene Carter's 1983 Epic Records album — a Carrollton Press LP, pristine and unplayed.
Carlene Carter occupies a genuinely singular position in country music history — the daughter of June Carter Cash, granddaughter of Mother Maybelle Carter, and stepdaughter of Johnny Cash, she arrived with a lineage that would have defined almost anyone else's career entirely and instead chose to spend much of her early recording life actively subverting it. Her late-1970s and early-1980s recordings for Warner Bros. UK — produced in part by her then-husband Nick Lowe and informed by the British pub rock and new wave scene around him — are among the most distinctive records made by any artist operating in the country orbit during that period. C'est C Bon, released in 1983 on Epic, represents her major label country pivot: more polished than the Warner Bros. work, but carrying the same wit, independence, and cross-genre sensibility that made her early career so compelling. The title — French for "It's Good" — is characteristic Carlene, playful and slightly irreverent about the conventions of a genre she was simultaneously working within and against. This original Epic pressing carries the Carrollton Press designation — Columbia Records' Carrollton, GA plant, which produced much of Epic's early-1980s domestic catalog and is specifically documented by collectors of the label and era. A sealed Mint Carrollton Press original at this price is accessible value for Carter family collectors, country rock completists, and anyone building a serious early-1980s Epic country catalog.
