Blue Riddim / Ranking Roger / Papa Kojie – Nancy Reagan Re-Election Remix (1985 / ORA International / 12" EP)

Blue Riddim / Ranking Roger / Papa Kojie – Nancy Reagan Re-Election Remix (1985 / ORA International / 12" EP)

A factory-sealed Mint original pressing of one of the most singular political reggae releases of the 1980s — a 1985 ORA International 12" EP featuring Blue Riddim Band alongside Ranking Roger of The Beat, pristine and unplayed.

Released in 1985 in the immediate wake of Ronald Reagan's landslide 1984 re-election, the Nancy Reagan Re-Election Remix is a document of a specific political and musical moment — a reggae and dancehall response to the Reagan era that assembled an unlikely and genuinely distinguished cast of collaborators. Blue Riddim Band were a Chicago-based reggae outfit with a devoted following in the American roots reggae scene; Papa Kojie brought the dancehall toasting tradition to the recording; and Ranking Roger — as frontman of The Beat (the English Beat in the US) and subsequently General Public, one of the defining voices of British ska, new wave, and pop — lent a name and a credibility to the project that places this well outside the typical political novelty release. The ORA International label catalog number ORA 001 identifies this as the label's inaugural release, adding a layer of rarity that independent label collectors will recognize immediately. Sealed Mint 12" EPs of an original-run boutique reggae political record from 1985, featuring a collaborator of Ranking Roger's stature, on a label's first release — there is no standard comparator for a copy in this condition.
